About William Smithey Jr
A skilled technician and occasional artist, William Smithey Jr, has, for nearly 25 years, photographed the American West’s natural areas – emphasizing National Parks and other Public Lands. The result of these travels is a large library of 4×5 natural history film images many of which are available as high resolution digital files.
More recently Mr. Smithey has accepted select commercial photographic assignments in Sacramento and San Francisco Bay areas. This commercial work is accomplished using Canon Full Frame Digital SLR cameras.
William Smithey’s photographs have appeared in hundreds of publications. Notable among these publications are Sierra Club Books and Calendars, Audubon Calendars, The Nature Conservancy Calendars, BrownTrout Calendars and publications by Impact Photographics. He is the author of six books on natural history. While a technician at Scripps Institution of Oceanography he co-authored several foundational scientific papers on deep sea hydrothermal vents.
